Human Rights Allege Zimbabwean Government Biased Distributing Relief In Support Areas

Human rights commission alleges Zimbabwean government is withholding food aid from opponents and are offering to the supporters only.

Government has however denied of any such partisan in the distribution of relief aid to the people.

A week ago the commission said to have discovered political bias in the food aid distribution as only the ZANU-PF ruled areas were getting those and the areas which support opposition parties are denied of the relief.

According to Ministry of Social Welfare, the latest allegations in the distribution of relief aid by the government are unsubstantiated and seemingly malicious.

Zimbabwean President Robett Mugabe said some stupid people of the commission have alleged the government is distributing grain along the party lines and this is absolutely not true.

The 92-year-old further said the Human Rights Commission chairman Elston Mugwadi is influenced by Western countries.

A severe drought has reduced harvest in the country and most of the people are left without food. The country made a plea earlier this year for assistance to feed about a third of its population.

Oxfam’s director in the country, Machinda Marongwe, they are concerned with the findings of commission and urged the food grains should be distributed on the principles of humanity, impartiality and neutrality.

Meanwhile, several NGOs have welcomed the intervention of the commission and called the government to refrain from such manipulation.

Zimbabwe will go for election in 2018 and ahead of it the Human Rights Commission is alert to guide the people without getting bias.
