The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Irene Mulyagonja, has written to the Public Service ministry to interdict seven Kyambogo staff, after they were charged recently with disobeying court orders and abuse of office.

IGG spokesperson Ali Munira told New Vision online that following a legal procedure, initiated by the office recently, a letter has been written to cause their interdiction.
According to Munira, the continued stay of the officials in office is likely to stifle investigations against them.
The officials include Prof. John Okedi, the University Council chairperson, Prof. John Opuda-Asibo, deputy vice-Chancellor, Sam Akorimo, the University Secretary, Ham Mugyereza and the Bursar. Others are Jackson Betihamah, an administrator, Daniel Ndawula and Wilfred Nahamya, members of the teaching staff, and Christine Obonyo-Kyayonka, deputy Registrar admissions.
The officials were arrested and charged early this month, but have continued to run offices normally, which some members of the teaching staff say contravenes the Public Service Standing Order 2010.
Some members of the university teaching staff and students have separately asked the IGG to kick-out the officials from office immediately.
A member of the teaching staff, who preferred anonymity, told Saturday Vision that the university’s top body — the university council, was supposed to oversee the interdiction, but cannot do so because some members of the council are among those who are facing disciplinary proceedings in court.
After the university officials arrest, university chancellor Dr. Erick Adriko appointed a number of interim office bearers, including Prof. Fabian Nabugoomu, to serve until the officials are cleared by the IGG.
However, Public Service ministry spokesperson, Jonas Tumwine, told Saturday Vision that: “They cannot leave office because they have not yet been convicted.’’
