The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has directed Kiryandongo district engineer Godfrey Bihemaiso to recover over sh2.2m he paid to a local firm for road construction.
The directive dated May 3 was addressed to the district chief administrative officer and signed by George Bamugemereire, the deputy IGG.
According to the letter, M/S Bugoma Traders, a local contractor, was paid above the contract sum of sh42.2m to work on the Diika-Bweyale road.
The letter added that the contractor was overpaid by about sh2m on the recommendation of the district engineer.
Part of the letter added that the IGG’s intervention followed a complaint that the works on the mentioned road were not completed, yet the contractor was paid the full contract sum.
However, the letter does not state the full length of the road designated for construction.
Instead, it adds that regarding the works on the road located in Bweyale town council, a reasonable quality of work was done on 1.8km.
The work included gravelling, construction of offshoots and installation of culverts.
The IGG ordered that the money be recovered within one month from the date the letter was issued failure of which Bihemaiso should personally refund it.
The money recovered must be deposited on the IGG’s Assets Recovery Account number: 003- 03008-8000-007 in Bank of Uganda.
