Minister Tibaijuka made the appeal on Tuesday afternoon while addressing hundreds of residents in Muleba town. She warned that without massive investment in vocational and technical education Tanzania will remain behind and become over-dependent on foreign experts.

“My appeal to Kagera residents is to start investing in vocational and technical training. We should not lax on what we have achieved,” she said. Prof Tibaijuka, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Muleba South (CCM) pledged to assist students who failed their 2013 Form Four exams to enable them to re-sit the exams.

The Minister said she would ensure that there are competent teachers to teach students who would be registered at Anna Kajumulo Secondary School on a part time basis starting with evening classes. She also elaborated that the government was keen to improve the education sector by setting aside a big budget each year.

She said last year, 204 teachers ware posted to Muleba District while this year the number stood at 129 teachers. She strongly warned leaders of the Muleba District Council to ensure that funds released by the government for development purposes are well managed.

This follows an audit report indicating that over 85m/- for water development in Nshamba Division had been swindled. She directed the Muleba District Council Chairman, Mr George Katomero, to ensure that the suspects were arraigned and prosecuted accordingly.

She also urged the residents to work as a team to speed up development. Prof Tibaijuka also directed district councils and municipalities to set aside enough funds for Land Development Officers to enable them to execute well their work and settle disputes related to plots.

Meanwhile, five villages in Kyamulaire Ward, in Bukoba Rural district are implementing water projects estimated to cost over 500m/- upon completion. The Village Chairman for Kyamulaire, Ruta Paul, named the villages to include Kitahya, Itongo, Mashule, Ibondo and Kyamulaire.

He said the project was being implemented with support from Bukoba District Council. He said completion of the project would solve water blues which faced the residents in Kyamulaire Ward for quite a long time.
