Irish Company CRH To Set Up Cement Factory In Tanzania

CRH Plc cement manufacturer is planning to set foot in Africa and it is to start from Tanzania. A building materials manufacturing plant is being planned to be set up in the country and this could be a game changer industry here.

The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) Communications manager Pendo Gondwe revealed the information Wednesday while talking to the media people at TIC head offices in Dar es Salaam.

CRH Plc is Ireland based cement manufacturer having business network in 32 countries. It has more than 85,000 employees in 3,600 locations world wide and in 2017 generated sales of 27.6 billion euros.

Gondwe said the CRH delegation visited TIC offices very recently and had taken decision of setting up the manufacturing infrastructure following meeting with the officials.

She further added, “Last week, we received them here and they made presentations of what they are planning. The interesting part of the discussions was the fact that the company has yet to establish its base in Africa.”

She continued saying that it is their honor the company has chosen Tanzania as the first milestone in the continent.

The land has not yet been alloted to the Iris company for setting up the factory but the TIC officials are working on it to provide soon.

Meanwhile, TIC said Tanzania has several investment projects on the pipeline and hence cement would be needed for construction purpose. The demand for cement is to rise rapidly in the country.
