AMAVUBI Stars forward Meddie Kagere will sign a one-year contract with Lebanese Premier League side Safa Sporting Club early next month.
Speaking to Saturday Sport yesterday, Kagere said, “I would have signed the contract but had to be postponed until the end of the first week of September.”
“The reason behind the delay was due to some official documentation regarding my nationality as requested by Fifa after Mali claimed that I am of Gabonese origin,” noted the former Police FC skipper.
It means, he said, Ferwafa have to write to Fifa to rectify the issue of his nationality before the Lebanese football federation gives his move a green light.
“I hope by the time we play Benin in our final Group H match, everything will be sorted out for me to go back and sign the contract,” added Kagere.
Last month, the former Atraco, Mukura and Kiyovu Sports underwent trials in South Africa with PSL new comers Mpumalanga Black Aces but the outcome of his test has never been made public.
The 27-year -old, who failed trials at Bidvest Wits and Turls last season, is trying his luck at a professional career. In Lebanon, he played four matches and scored three goals while on trial.
The Rwandan international talisman spent three seasons at Police, scoring 38 league goals.
League champions Rayon Sports and his former team Police FC are all waiting on the wings to have him on their books for next season in case his move to Lebanon aborts.
He is Rwanda’s top scorer in the on-going 2014 world Cup qualifiers with three goals in five matches played so far.
