Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba told New Vision that Lukwago was released at night and that he is at his home.
Lukwago was on Monday arrested near his home in Rubaga Division and taken to Nagalama Police Station in Mukono District where he spent a day and part of the night before he was released late in the night.
Ingrid Turinawe, the FDC Women League chairperson has also been released.
Police held Lukwago on allegations of inciting violence, and disobeying statutory duty under Section 116 of the Penal Code.
Lukwago was picked by police as he headed for a planned rally at Nakivubo Settlement Primary School, in Kampala City.
Lukwago had wanted to address his supporters over a recent tribunal report released by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, which found him guilty of incompetence, abuse of office and misconduct, and recommended changes to the KCCA Act that could see the next Lord Mayor selected among the five division mayors once Lukwago is impeached by councilors.
Today, his lawyer, Abdu Katuntu, is expected to file a court case challenging the recommendations of the tribunal.
