NAIROBI, KENYA: Kenya has been elected to chair a specialized organ of the Commonwealth dealing with ICTs for the next one year.
This is the second time that Kenya has been chosen to chair the Council of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO). This took place during the just-concluded 53rd session of the CTO Council held in Abuja, Nigeria. The country was first elected to this position in 2012 during the 52nd session of the CTO Council.
Addressing Council soon after the election, Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) Director in charge of Human Capital and Administration Mr. Juma Kandie thanked Council members for the confidence bestowed on Kenya
The Council is the oversight body mandated to provide strategic leadership and guidance to the CEO and management team of CTO on implementation of the strategic plan, business plan and operational budget.
Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago were also re-elected 1st vice chair and 2nd vice chair of the CTO council, respectively.
Telkom South Africa and the Telecommunications Regulatory Board of Cameroon were elected to the CTO’s Executive Committee to represent the interests of industry partners and development partners, respectively.
The 53rd session of the CTO Council meeting was attended by 20 Commonwealth countries. CCK is the designated Government representative to the CTO.
