A forty year old man from Sikura village in Butula sub-county, Busia county is being held in custody at Busia police station after he alleged defiled his 13yrs old first born daughter.

The man Chrispinus Otsieno who is a father of five is alleged to have committed the offense on 17th July this year when the wife had gone to visit her father who was ailing.
According to the girl, the father told her and her younger sisters and brothers to move from the kitchen where they usually sleep and sleep in the main house with him, and when it reached eleven at night, he sneaked to where she was on the chair, covered her mouth and defiled her for some time and warned her not to tell anybody about the ordeal.
A medical report shows that the standard five girl at a primary school in the area has been defiled severally and is infected with HIV/Aids.
The man will be arraigned in court on charge of defiling a minor once the police wrap up investigations.
The act has drawn sharp criticism from residents and the wife to the accused, Godliver Awino who has suggested harsh penalty for the husband for what she termed as ‘killing’ their daughter by infecting her with HIV, “It pains me that my husband knows we are HIV victims and he goes ahead to defile our daughter, he has actually killed her and he should be punished for that,” stated the mother of five who is five months pregnant as tears rolled down her cheeks.
According to Reep (Rural Education Enhancement Program), an NGO based in Butula, Director Mrs. Mary Makokha, incest cases are rampant in Butula and they require more concerted efforts to end them.
