Kenyans charged for teaching illegally


Two Kenyans appeared before Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam on Thursday charged with living illegally and for working as school teachers in the country.

Before Senior Resident Magistrate Sudi Fimbo, the Immigration Prosecutor, Jereska Ndetaburya alleged that on September 16, this year in the city, being citizens of Kenya the accused Janetha Wamitha (20) and Bernard Otieno (30), both teachers at Ambassador International School in Tabata area, Ilala District, were in the country without a valid pass.

In the second count the prosecutor alleged that on the same date in the city in Ilala, knowing they are citizens of Kenya the accused were found engaging in profession as teachers without valid permits.

The accused agreed the charges and were convicted or paying a fine of 100,000/- or jailed for two years. The second accused prayed to court for pardon and promised to find valid passes to live legally in the country.

The accused were freed after paying the fine of 100,000/- each. In another development, two other people appeared before the same court charged with 17 charges including obtaining money by false pretence of more than 101m/- from 17 people in the city.


Before Magistrate Fimbo, Prosecutors Mohamed Lukwili and Mwanahamis Komba alleged that between August 2008 to October 2010 the accused Marwa Stephen and Tulibako, being the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Vision Saccos obtained the money from Ezekiel Ndowo, Jeremia Martin, Erickson Athuman, Daniel Longway, George Mwinami, Celestine Jaka, Yasin Majimoto, Anastazia Temu.

Others were Shukuru Ezekiel, Mary Sway, Lawrence Maxwel, Beatrice Mlekwa, Apaikundi Nkya, Wilbert Sengela, Friday Mwakyusa, Adelita Nyiti and Cecilia Temu.

It is alleged that the accused obtained the money from those people by false pretence, claiming they would provide 5 per cent interest after every five months of any deposited amount to Vision Saccos, a fact they knew to be untrue.
