KIBWEZI; KENYA: Aspirants for the Kibwezi West parliamentary seat have stepped up their campaigns as the race enters fever pitch.
On Sunday, immediate former MP Patrick Musimba, whose election was nullified by the High Court, held an interdenominational prayer session at Makindu which, he said, was meant to “dedicate the campaigns to God”.
He said the prayers were meant to mobilise religious leaders and faithful as well as different ethnic groups in the constituency to work together in relation to the national clarion call for peaceful coexistence. “We must teach our people to live together as Kenyans. Our people need to know we are one and can conquer challenges facing our nation.”
Electoral tradition
Musimba said his goal remains improving the quality of education and ensuring equal opportunities for all to end the poverty prevalent in the constituency. He said he was sure to recapture the seat adding that the development infrastructure he had laid down pending release of funds spoke volumes and was enough to catapult him back to power.
And the Party of Independent Candidates of Kenya (PICK) aspirant Juliana Kisimbi over the weekend traversed different parts of the county to woo the voters. Kisimbi, the only female candidate, said she was sure the youth and women vote was enough to assure her a win.
She said Kibwezi has a history of electing new faces and urged Kibwezi West residents to try a new person as the rest have had their time and have virtually nothing to show for it. She said her goal is to empower women and the youth to develop their talents that have for long been overlooked.
