The media awareness breakfast which is dubbed ‘Kuwa Shujaa, Kaa Rada’ seeks to elicit a response to the problem of andalism that has affected a range of infrastructure developments across various economic sectors from energy, to telecommunication, to construction and roads. The event will be a part of a series of anti vandalism initiatives lined for the year.
The Kenya National Highways Authority company is among service utilities greatly affected by vandalism. Regions greatly affected by vandalism are in Nairobi, Mombasa, Central and areas around Machakos i.e. in the Eastern Province, “We lose close to a billion shillings annually to vandalism. We lose street lights, guard rails, cables and even road signage”, said Eng. Samuel Ogege, the general Manager of Maintenance from the company.
