Lana Del Rey talks struggling to write new album in Nylon shoot

She admitted recently that being on the road had sapped her inspiration to write music. And Lana Del Rey appears to still be waiting for her creativity to return.

Lana bared her midriff in a black ensemble paired with a back crucifix and choker

The 27-year-old said she ‘doesn’t know’ when her next album will be ready, describing her muse as ‘fickle’ in the November issue of Nylon magazine.

‘When people ask me about it, I just have to be honest – I really don’t know,’ she said about her followup full-length record to Born To Die. ‘I don’t want to say, “Yeah, definitely – the next one’s better than this one,” because I don’t really hear a next one.

‘My muse is very fickle. She only comes to me sometimes, which is annoying,’ she added.

The Young And Beautiful songstress bares her midriff on the cover of the magazine in gothic attire.

She wears a black bustier and what appears to be high-waisted leggings, paired with a dark-wash denim jacket.

The New York native wears a large crucifix around her neck as well as a choker.

Her dark hair is loose and wavy over her shoulders and her eyes are lined in black.

Lana also touches on her alcoholism as a teenager (she was sent to boarding school at 15 in Connecticut to allegedly deal with her alcohol abuse).

‘Sometimes when I write about my feelings, about what sounds like a person, I’m actually writing about the way I felt when I was completely inebriated, which was really good – until it wasn’t working for me anymore,’ she said.

‘Thinking about not drinking forever was very scary, but once I did it wasn’t hard anymore because I had all of these miracles happen that let me know I was on exactly the right path.’

Lana also said she turns within when faced with her detractors.

‘It’s important to have a good relationship with yourself when you become well known,’ she said. ‘People will say a lot of things, and you’ll start to wonder if they’re true. But then you have to go back to all of those little truths and kernels you found along the way that remind you: You are where you’re supposed to be.’

She said this is especially true when she’s writing.

‘It’s harder to be an observer when people are watching you. You have to go further inside because the outside world becomes a harder place to draw from.’

Rumours were rife that Lana was releasing her new album at the end of September after tracks were released online over the summer.

Lana also hinted that she may be leaving the music world completely.

After announcing her short film Tropico, she tweeted: ‘Looking forward to seeing you for the farewell project. I adore you and thank you for inspiring me. TROPICO.’

She described the film to Nylon as being ‘Elvis and Jesus and Marilyn and extraterrestrials all in one.’
