Madina Iddi emulated Angel Eaton’s success at the Kenya Ladies Coast Open Golf Tournament to win the second series of the event at the Leisure Golf Club in Mombasa on Tuesday.
The national team ace overcame a stiff challenge to win the Leisure Trophy in the 18 holes stroke play event sponsored by Imperial Bank and Friends of Leisure Golf after carding 81 gross.
It was a tough day compared to the first series Stable Ford format at the Vipingo Ridge Baobab Championship Golf Course on Monday, which her national teammate Angel won by five-under 38 points. Handicap-3 Madina finished third at Vipingo with two-under 35 at the par 75 course.
This time around she had to fight to her best strength to win the Leisure Trophy by a stroke over Eaton, who came second with 82 to maintain Tanzania’s dominance of the ongoing event. Eaton beat Kenyan Nyanchama on countback after they all returned the same score.
Another Tanzania national team member Neema Olomi handicap-6, finished second runner-up in the nett category after carding 78 in a tournament that brought together about 80 golfers from Tanzania and hosts Kenya.
The Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) honorary secretary Anita Siwale, was happy with the Tanzania players’ performance.
“I’m very pleased with the performance and efforts put by each of them. In the first series we took two prizes and in the second series we’ve taken three. This is extremely good and I hope we’ll maintain this outstanding feat until the last day,” she said.
The tournament headed to Nyali Golf & Country Clubs yesterday where golfers will battle it out in 18 holes Ladies Foursomes sponsored by Kaluworks.
And today there is a Ladies Coast Open Championship Nyali Bowl at the same course in which players will have to put up all their strength in a 36 holes Stroke Play that will mark the Golfer of the Year event sponsored by Aryuv Agencies Ltd.
