Magufuli Is Authoritarian: Critics

Tanzanian President John Magufuli is nicknamed “The Bulldozer” by critics and oppositions in the country for his strictness in choking out policies and no-holds-barred fight against corruption. His hashtag #whatwouldmagufulido has become trending in the region where people praises as well as mocks his implementations and the way he is saving national funds from being misused. Lately, critics are saying he has moved Tanzania toward authoritarianism.

Magufuli inaugurated fa bridge last year and amid the happy affair he addressed the people that the beautiful construction was built through fraud by the previous administration, reveals a byline of a newspaper.

A media person said when Magufuli took the podium, his anger rushed out of him.

In past two years or so the president has managed slashing down spending and has stopped millions of dollars from being spent on ghost workers. Tax collection revenue has increased too and now in every store, gas station and coffee shop one can find a digital tax collector. Revenue at Dar es Salaam port has increased lately.

However, critics have their own theory and points out that people are avoiding to talk about Magufuli out of fear of being spied by their own people nearby. Currently the president seems stifled by the lagging economy as even after 56 years of independence the country is much behind.

It is also claimed the media no longer shows up the press conferences of other parliamentarians and there is virtually no one to criticize the president openly.

It’s good example of authoritarian, says critics.
