Makinda leaves for CPA meeting in Namibia

The National Assembly Speaker, Ms Anne Makinda, was expected to leave for Namibia leading the Tanzanian parliamentarian delegation to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) – African Region – meeting.

A statement made available to ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam said the CPA – Africa Region — 44th annual meeting is scheduled to start in Windhoek, Namibia on Thursday to July 27th.

The Association comprising 63 African Parliaments in 19 countries expects to accommodate more than 500 Members of Parliament and about 26 Clerks of National Assembly.

The conference in Windhoek would deliberate on proper utilisation of Commonwealth partnership to promote peaceful conflict resolution and economic development on the continent.

Tanzania will be attending the 44th CPA meeting which would culminate by electing the country’s National Assembly Speaker to be president of the CPA Africa Zone for one year. Traditionally, the president becomes the host of the next annual meeting.

Tanzania will be the host of next year’s CPA Africa region meeting planned for Arusha. During the next year’s CPA meeting which is expected to accommodate more than 500 MPs and other participants, it is expected to easily be translated into conference economy not only in Africa but also beyond in terms of contacts, business as well as investments.

Tanzania Parliament is the headquarter for the CPA Africa Region since 2003 serving 63 parliaments in 19.
