Malinyi bus stand gets street lights

Food vendors at Malinyi Bus Stand, Mulanga in Morogoro Region have every reason to smile after Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA), in collaboration with Ensol Tanzania Limited installed lights at the area, mainly to promote economic activities and social services.

The lights that were set up to help the food vendors especially women, among other people, conduct their businesses in safe condition.

Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam this week, the Executive Director with TAREA, Mr Mathew Matimbwi said the lights were installed following requests by the villagers at Malinyi, mostly women to help them conduct their businesses.

“Women at Malinyi approached Ensol Tanzania Limited who later shared the cause with TAREA that approached Molly’s Network for financial support through provision of solar lights,” he said.

Mr Matimbwi said that the installation project was facilitated by the Molly’s Network with 11m/-. He said that the project has been a great support to the community and neighbouring villages at the bus stand.

“Despite that, the lights have benefited the passengers that stay overnight at the bus stand waiting to travel with buses that leave Malinyi at 3am and boys that sell tickets at the bus stand,” he said.

According to Eng. Matimbwi, four solar lights were installed with photo switches that make operation of the lights automatic. Meanwhile, members of the community have requested extension of the street lights to cover all business areas to maximise the economic and social benefits to the people of Malinyi.

“We are very grateful for the support and we call upon other well-wishers to support us with such help to cover many areas especially schools to improve learning environment and safety of the girls,” said the Chairman of Malinyi Village, Mr Kiwanga Towegale.

Mr Towegale said that the project support has been a great support to the community of Malinyi that will support economy of women and the security of people of Malinyi and neighbouring villages at the bus stand.

“The project has brought awareness of the potentials of the solar photovoltaic technology to the population of Malinyi as after the installation, there have been requests from families to procure solar systems for domestic electricity supply,” noted Eng. Matimbwi.
