Man dies after collapsing in motel lavatory in Dar

A man died at the weekend while receiving medical treatment at a dispensary in Dar es Salaam after he had collapsed in a motel lavatory at Majumba Sita in Ilala municipality.

Ilala Regional Police Commander (RPC), Ms Marietha Minangi, said the deceased, Laison Kayange (38), who was a Kimara Mbezi Luis resident in Kinondoni municipality, died at around 8:00pm on Saturday.

“The cause of his death is yet to be established but we are investigating the matter,” said Ms Minangi. According to the deceased’s girlfriend who was identified as Naomi Matowo (32), Kayange had been complaining about not feeling well before collapsing in the motel where they had booked a room.

RPC Minangi said the deceased’s body was taken to Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) for a postmortem and preservation.

In another incident, Ms Minangi said a passenger died while on the way to Amana Hospital after he had sustained serious injuries in a road accident at Kiwalani, in Ilala municipality on Saturday.

She said the deceased, Mohamed Sultan (25), who was a Kiwalani resident, fell from a mini truck with registration number T 849 BWE, adding that the accident occurred following a dislocation between the truck engine and its body while moving. The RPC alleged that the dislocation was caused by reckless driving. She identified the driver as Sadiki Shaaban.

She said two other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and that they were taken to Amana Hospital for treatment. RPC Minangi named the injured passengers as Saum Saidi (18) and Rehema Mashaka (42), both residents of Kiwalani in Ilala municipality.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian was knocked to death by an Eicher lorry with registration number T 470 BKG along Mwanga lodge road at Yombo Vituka area in Temeke municipality on the same day.

According to Temeke Regional Police Commander (RPC), Englibert Kiondo, the pedestrian, who was identified as Jamila Adam (35), met the death while crossing the road on Saturday morning.

He said the deceased’s body was taken to Temeke District Hospital mortuary for preservation pending collection by relatives. He said the police were still investigating the matter.
