A man identified as Ramadhan Kigambo, aged between 55 and 60 years, died mysteriously on Tuesday while walking to his place of work at Upanga area in Dar es Salaam, police have said.
Ilala Regional Police Commander (RPC) Marietha Minangi said in the city that the incident occurred at night at Palm Beach hotel area close to the fence wall of the Iran embassy. She said the man was a security guard at the embassy and a resident of Tabata in the city.
“According to eye witness reports, the man was going for his night shift when he suddenly collapsed before reaching the embassy office compound and died on the spot,” said Minangi.
The cause of the death is yet to be known. The body of the deceased is preserved at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) mortuary pending a post-mortem and burial arrangements by the relatives. In another incident, fire gutted two out of six rooms of a house belonging to Mohamed Maulid at Mamboleo ‘A’ in Temeke municipality.
Temeke RPC Engerbelt Kiondo said the fire was shortly thereafter put out. “The fire is said to have been caused by an electrical fault. The value of the damaged property is yet to be established.
The fire was put out by the city fire and rescue brigade in collaboration with the neighbours,” said Kiondo. In another incident, five people were arrested by the police in connection with 84 rolls of marijuana and 15 litres of the local liquor commonly known as ‘gongo’.
The arrests were made by the police in a special operation conducted at various areas in Kinondoni municipality. Kinondoni RPC Camilius Wambura said the suspects, who were arrested at Bunju and Kawe areas, were Christopher Andrew (40), Lulu Mwakilunga (22) and three others whose names he did not mention.
Meanwhile, Ludovick Kazoka reports that a 69-year-old woman was stabbed to death by unknown assailants over witchcraft belief at Hansetwa village in Mbozi district, Mbeya region on Tuesday.
Mbeya Regional Police Commander (RPC) Ahmed Msangi, said yesterday that the woman, who was identified as Irene Mwamlima, was found dead at around 7pm, saying the deceased’s body was found with multiple wounds.
“Ms Mwamlima, who was living alone in Ihanda ward in Vwawa division, is believed to have died due to excessive bleeding caused by the wounds,” said the RPC.
Mr Msangi said the deceased’s body was taken to Mbozi District Hospital for preservation pending burial arrangements, saying police were still investigating the matter to establish those behind the killing.
