Members of the Mara Regional Road Board are meeting in Musoma this morning for a day-long session, to discuss the performance of the road network in the Lake zone region.
The meeting is scheduled to be chaired by Mara Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr John Tupa. Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads) Mara regional manager, Emmanuel Korosso, is expected to present a detailed report on the performance of trunk and regional roads while reports on the development of rural roads will be presented by directors from all the district councils and Musoma municipality.
Mara is rated as one Tanzania mainland regions with the best road network, thanks to the fourth phase government which has continued to pump in funds for its improvement.
The government has pumped in about 20bn/- to improve the road network in the region during the past two financial years, RC Tupa said in a brief report to Vice- President, Dr Mohamed Bilal, when the VP toured the region last March.
The government has further coughed up about 5bn- for the improvement of the rural road network being undertaken by district councils in the region during the same period, according to Mr Tupa.
