Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now a dad. His wife Priscilla Chan has given birth to a baby girl. The announcement was made yesterday, but daughter Max came in their lives a week ago.
Announcing the welcome of a new member in the family, Zuckerberg made a pledge of donating 99 percent of his shares in Facebook to charity during his lifetimes.
The announcement and pledge is in a letter format to daughter Max. The focus of the charity will be on connecting people, building strong communities, curing disease and personalized learning.
The social media mogul said, “We believe all lives have value, and that includes the many more people who will live in future generations than live today.”
In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission the couple also said they will be taking time in distributing the money to charity and plans of either selling or giving away up to $1 billion worth of stock each year for next three years.
The couple added their hopes focuses mainly on two ideas – promoting equality and advancing human.
Zuckerberg is congratulated by Billionaire and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg for his new pledge saying it will benefit people across the world and will also set an example for others who can give as well.
Bloomberg however questioned in a statement raising doubt how many of his peers in the Silicon Valley would go beyond and join Zuckerberg.
The couple is also a part of an initiative called The Giving Pledge under which they had earlier pledged to give at least half of their wealth to charity.
