The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) market capitalisation has increased to 15.35tri/- in October, this year, which is 18.5 per cent gain compared to 12.95tri/- registered in corresponding period in 2012.
As an estimation of the value of a business of a given bourse, market capitalisation also stands to represent the number of shares outstanding multiplied by the current share price.
The DSE key equities market indicators show that domestic market capitalisation almost doubled to 4.53tri/- in the period under review equivalent to 66.9 per cent increase compared to 2.72tri/- realised in the previous period.
During the year, the DSE All Share Index recorded significant increase to 172,843,000 points in October, this year compared to 145,827,000 points registered in the corresponding period 2012.
Similarly, the Tanzania Share Index (TSI) gained 215,904,000 compared to 129,338,000 points of the preceding period.
The outstanding performance of the bourse indexes is explained by an outstanding performance of the share prices for TCC that has almost doubled to 8,000/- in 12 months period.
Other listed firms whose share prices have more than doubled include the Swissport to 2,600/-, NMB increased to 2,160/-, TBL jumped to 4,320/- Meanwhile, the Dar bourse’s Tuesday session recorded turnover of 4.47bn/- from 2,073,541 shares traded in 54 deals, down from 6.069bn/- from 2,895,857 shares of the previous period traded in 50 deals.
CRDB counter had 56,625 shares traded at weighted average price of 270/- per share in 10 deals. NMB counter had 1,000 shares traded at weighted average price of 2,000/- per share in 1 deal.
SIMBA counter had 3,202 shares traded at weighted average price of 2,360/- ex dividend per share in three deals. TBL counter had 9,775 shares traded at weighted average price of 4,360/- per share in 22 deals.
SWISSPORT counter had 850 shares traded at weighted average price of 2,600/- per share in seven deals. At the close of business, PAL counter had 13,000 shares on offer at 475/- per share. TCC counter had 800 shares on bid at 8,000/- ex div per share while TOL counter had 8,700 shares on bid at 305/- per share.
