Four suspected bandits were arrested in Rungwe District during a special police operation. Mbeya Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Diwani Athumani, named those arrested as Atanas Amon (42), Marko Kandosa (35), Ismail Buge (23) and Richard Aloyce (46), all residents of Dar es Salaam.
“The bandits were using a black Mercedes Benz with registration numbers T 213 DKQ and inside the car we found a pistol with two rounds of ammunition,” he said.
He also said that police are continuing with their operation in the city especially vehicles inspection and the suspects were still in police custody as investigations continue. Meanwhile, a 15-year-old girl, Bertha Amri, committed suicide on Tuesday evening at Tegeta Namanga in Dar es Salaam, police said.
The Kinondoni Police Commander (RPC), Mr Camilius Wambura has said the girl was a form one student at Tegeta Secondary School. He said she was found dead in her mother’s bedroom after she hanged herself by using a piece of cloth.
“A day before her death, the girl had a conversation with her mother- Ms Angelina Mshami (30) concerning school preparations but the late seemed uninterested, she instead insisted that she wanted to work,” he said. He said the misunderstanding is suspected to be the cause of the girl’s decision to take her life.
The body has been preserved in Mwananyamala Hospital’s mortuary pending burial arrangements. In another development, a motorcyclist died and one person was injured in a road accident at Ubungo External area in Kinondoni Municipality.
RPC Wambura said Ismail Kassim (28), a resident of Vingunguti was riding a motorcycle (bodaboda) with registration number T 134 CMK and carried one passenger, Ms Pendo Masele (25), also a resident of Vingunguti who was injured in the incident.
