Mainland champions Young Africans started well their camp in Turkey after thrashing Ankara Sekerspor 3-0 in a friendly match at Manavgat Antalya.
According to a report posted in the club’s website by Information Officer, Baraka Kizuguto, Yanga managed to run rings around their opponents from the onset.
Goals from Didier Kavumbagu, Emmanuel Okwi and Hamisi Kiiza earned the Jangwani Street side a comprehensive victory and put them in a perfect frame of mind to win other build-up matches.
In the match, assistant coach, Charles Boniface Mkwasa ‘Master’ tested a total of 18 players in his squad to assess their ability and he was impressed with what he saw. He praised his players for a good show.
“I think we had a brilliant game…it was roundly a good performance from all players though we still need to keep improving,” said Mkwasa, who has taken a caretaker role as the team was in the process to appoint the head coach, to replace sacked Dutchman, Ernie Brandts.
Yanga got off to a fine start and it took them just ten minutes to notch the opener, when Okwi’s stinging shot was spilled off by the keeper and Burundian striker Didier Kavumbagu pounced on to tap in with ease.
After the goal, both teams played calmly and attacked each other in turn, however, defenders from either ends stood firm to thwart dangers. Until the breather, the score was 1-0 in favour of Yanga.
It only took Yanga a minute to double their lead with Okwi connecting well into the back of the net a well calculated pass from winger Mrisho Ngassa, who dribbled past several Ankara Sekaspor defenders before releasing a teasing ball deep in the area.
In the 58th minute Mkwasa made some changes by introducing Hamis Kizza ‘Diego’ and Nizar Khalfani for Kavumbagu and newly recruited youngster midfielder Hassan Dilunga.
Three minutes after coming in from the bench, Kiiza scored the third goal for his team, finishing off from Frank Domayo’s defence splitting pass. His shot took a slight deflection off a defender only to swerve away from the goalkeeper.
Speaking after the match, Mkwasa praised his players for playing good football and following instructions from the technical bench.
He added that he had seen some changes in his squad after three days training in Turkey and believes that the remaining days in camp might be fruitful in his quest to prepare a strong team for the Mainland Premier League second round and CAF Champions League.
