Pain medication for a neck injury he suffered during his 2010 stint on “Dancing with the Stars” kicked off the prescription pill addiction of reality TV star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. The 32-year-old TV personality revealed this and other details about his drug battle in an interview on Monday, September 9, where he talked about his 2012 rehab with hopes of inspiring others in a similar predicament to get treatment.

The “Jersey Shore” cast member recounted that he realized his addiction had turned for the worse when on a February 2012 trip to Australia, he couldn’t even “get dressed for a family function.” “The shirt was laid out, the belt, the pants, everything. The shower was on. I couldn’t even get out of bed. If I can’t do that how am I going to continue?” he said. He also denied rumors that he combined the drugs with alcohol, saying, “I didn’t mix anything.”

That got him to check himself into the Cirque Lodge in Utah to get treatment for his opioid addiction, where he was put on another type of medication that he continues to take daily combined with regular counseling. After completing the program, he became the new spokesman for the company that makes the medication he’s taking.

Now that he’s back on his feet, Sitch launched Reset Reality, a campaign to spread awareness for opioid prescription painkiller addiction. “The roller coaster of fame and fortune is definitely a ride in itself, but to get to recovery is something special. There is hope out there and you can get help,” said Sorrentino.
