Graduates should strive to use their education to improve the country’s economy and work even more harder after leaving colleges.
Officiating at the 14th Graduation Ceremony of the Tanzania Public Service Colleges (TPSC) over the weekend in Tabora, the Minister of State in the President’s Office (Public Service Management), Ms Celina Kombani said many graduates fail to live up to the people’s expectations.
Ms Kombani decried the business as usual attitude, describing it as unprofessional. She also called upon the record keepers or office attendants who were among the graduands to get away with the trend of leaking confidential reports. Ms Kombani said leaking confidential information was a criminal offence whose penalty range from summary dismissal or prosecution and imprisonment.
She said graduates at the college were trained on handling of classified and non-classified documents. Ms Kombani expressed concern over the growing habit among workers spending many hours talking on mobile phones, saying the practice adversely affected performance in many public offices. Earlier,
The Executive Director of TPSC Tabora Campus, Mr Said Nassor said they have managed to increase the number of branches from two in 2000 to five at present which has contributed to the increase of the number of students. In spite of the success the college has made, it is facing a lot of challenges including higher operational costs.
Higher electricity tariff, water, inadequate classes and dormitories hinder the college to meet its targets. In her welcoming speech, the Tabora Regional Commissioner, Ms Fatuma Mwassa urged ‘wananchi’ to utilise fully services offered by the colleges.
