Tanzania golf team ace Nuru Mollel emerged the Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) Corporate golf tournament champion over the weekend.
Fresh from the inaugural Africa Zone V Golf Challenge Trophy held at Great Rift Valley Golf Resort in Naivasha, Kenya early this month, Mollel won his first corporate Division A title since April, this year, after returning impressive two-under 38 points at the 18 holes Stable Ford format event.
Mollel had struggled in recent months to see his handicap drop from plus two to scratch, but a stunning performance over the weekend saw his handicap upgraded to plus one.
The victory showed how good and hungry for success Mollel is after the national team failed to restore Tanzania’s glory lost for 11 years for finishing third out of six countries.
Tanzania managed 15.5 points while hosts Kenya confirmed their regional supremacy by clinching the title with 19 points. Mollel now looks forward to resuming his senses and good form which helped him collect several club and national trophies.
The Division A runner-up position went to Simon Travers, handicap-5, who returned one-under 37 points, while Raju Lodhia handicap-12 came third with level 36 points.
Jagdish Ahluwalia, handicap-19, carded two-under 38 points to win Division B top prize as second place went to Riyaz Somji, handicap-16, who had level 36 and Upendra Baghel, handicap-24, finished third with 34 points.
Division C top prize went to Musadding Versi, handicap-25, with 30 points, Aayush Nathwan, also handicap 25, finished second with 29 points while Shik Nanabhai, handicap-25, collected 27 points to finish third.
