A bomb exploded Monday in a mosque in the northern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, capital of Borno, killing about twenty people and injuring tons of others.
No group has claimed responsibility of the attack but it is believed to be the terror act of Islamic militant group Boko Haram.
Maiduguri is the birthplace of the group campaigning to create an Islamic state in Nigeria.
A day before, Sunday, Nigerian army fought with the group west of Maiduguri. Intense exchange of fire was seen along with two suicide bombers staged the terror act killing at least 15 people.
According to a resident named Musa Abdukadir, more than 50 victim bodies were counted after the mosque attack in the state specialist hospital in the city.
A nurse at Maiduguri Specialist Hospital said they have received dozens of critically injured people and most of them were children and women who may not survive.
Maiduguri has a population of about one million and hosts refugees of about 2.5 million people.
Another local resident named Ibrahim Goni said, “We all fled yesterday as our houses were on fire. This morning we came back, and while we were counting the people who had burned in the houses, another bomb exploded.”
Until now the Boko Haram insurgency has displaced more than 2 million people and has killed thousands of people.
Earlier this year Boko Haram has lost most of its seized territory. Since then the group has resorted to hitting soft targets including bus stations, markets and places of worship.
