Tw0 pedestrians have died in two separate incidents in Moshi district due to careless crossing of the roads, Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Robert Boaz told a press conference on Tuesday.
He said last Monday at 3.30 pm, a five-year old boy, Maximillian Nyasi met his death when a passenger bus, Nissan, with registration number KBQ 908J, which was heading to Arusha from Moshi, knocked down the deceased, killing him instantly.
According to RPC Boaz, the driver of the ill-fated bus, Alex Lukumay (47), is in police hands for questioning in connection with the road mishap which took place at a Moshi-Arusha junction in Moshi municipality.
He said the road mishap happened after the deceased crossed the road carelessly and that the deceased has been buried. The RPC revealed that on the same day at 7.30 pm, a 20-year girl, Jane Geofrey was run over by a Toyota Hiace with registration number T 337 AAS.
She met her death as she was being taken to KCMC referral hospital for treatment and immediately thereafter the driver of the Hiace escaped from the scene apparently to evade mob justice and the long arm of the law.
The accident occurred as the girl was crossing the road at Kiboroloni area along Moshi- Himo highway without taking due care, Mr Boaz said, adding that her body is preserved at KCMC Hospital awaiting relatives to collect it for burial.
