Motorcyclist dies after hitting pedestrian


A motorcyclist identified as Edmund Mlela (56), died in a road accident on Tuesday night along Sam Nujoma Road at the Mwenge traffic lights in Kinondoni Municipality, police have confirmed.

The Kinondoni Regional Police Commander (RPC), Camilius Wambura, said in the city that the accident occurred at 11pm and the victim was riding a Honda motorbike with registration number T 667 BZZ.

“A motorcyclist died after knocking down a pedestrian, Wilberd Maganga (26), and crashed into a trench along the road,” said Wambura. The pedestrian was injured and rushed to Sinza Palestina Hospital before being discharged. The body of the deceased is preserved at Mwananyamala hospital mortuary pending burial arrangements.

In a separate incident, fire destroyed two different houses in Kinondoni and Ilala municipalities. In one incident, the fire suspected to have been caused by a candle burnt to ashes a grocery shop belonging to Deo Shina (44), at Manzese area in Kinondoni Municipality.


Wambura said the fire broke out at night and it was suspected to have been caused by a candle, “The fire destroyed everything in the shop whose value is still to be established,” he said adding that no one was injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, the Ilala Regional Police Commander (RPC), Marietha Minangi, said that fire razed a room at a house owned by Masoud Nasoro (28), a resident of Buguruni area.

“The fire damaged the living room of a tenant named Mukendi Devdonne (33), destroying all everything in it,” she said. Minangi said the value of the damaged property was still to be established, the fire was extinguished by the fire brigade, city rescue force and TANESCO in collaboration with Good Samaritans.
