Councillors in Mpanda Town, Katavi Region, have approved monetary budget proposals requiring a total expenditure of 36,229,866 for the fiscal year 2014/15.
The Executive Director for the council, Mr Seleman Lukanga tabled the estimates at a full council.
According to Mr Lukanga the money would be raised from various sources, including the councils internal sources which would realize 1,285,460,000/-.
The director said that other sources of funds include a subvention from the Central Government.
The subvention would meet payment of salaries and other recurrent expenditure amounting to 9.2bn-.
Mpanda Town Council would also receive a subsidy for development projects from Central Government and this would be in the tune of 25.2bn/-.
The Chairman of Mpanda Town Council, Mr Enock Gwambasa, instructed district executives to ensure that the envisaged projects were completed on timely and carried out properly taking value for money into consideration.
Mpanda attained township status officially on July 01, 2007. The town covers about 349 sq. kms. In another development, the government has allocated 8.9bn/- for road construction projects in Katavi Region.
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads) Regional Manager, Eng. Isaack Kamwele , said here yesterday that 6.7bn/- would be spent on improvement of trunk roads and on rehabilitating regional roads spanning 972.39 kilometres. The roads will have 52 bridges.
Eng. Kamwale further said that Katavi Region has a road network covering a total of 1,101.46 kilometres. Projects on the road network are supervised by the Ministry of Works through Tanroads.
Out of the entire network regional roads cover 627.16 kilometres while trunk roads span 474.30 kilometres. Until January15, this year, according to Eng. Kamwele, a total of 1.30 km of regional tarmac roads had been lined up to undergo periodic maintenance at a cost 5.6m/-.
A further 327.8 kilometres of regional gravel roads would undergo periodic maintenance that would cost 869m/-. During the same period 18 bridges and portions covering 428.10 kilometres on the trunk roads have been line up for maintenance at a cost of 3.3bn/-.
The Katavi Regional Commissioner, Dr Rajab Rutengwe, who chaired the Roads Board, meeting cautioned residents in the area as well as in the region at large to be vigilant and ensure that the infrastructure including roads were not vandalized.
Meanwhile, the government has set aside more than 7.1 bn/- for contract processing and rehabilitation of two roads that link Mpanda to Mishamo and Ipole to Koga in Mpanda town.
The two road stretches cover a total of 365 kilometres.
