Mpanda town faces power cuts

The frequent power blackouts which Mpanda town residents have been facing for a month now are set to end sometime next week.

Mpanda Tanesco District Manager, Mr Chacha Nsiku, told the ‘Daily News’ over the phone from Mpanda that the rationing was due to repairs being undertaken on one of the four generators, adding that all the generators were in bad shape.

“All our four generators are in fact outmoded and needed frequent repairs. Our technicians have repaired one of them and now are busy finalising minor repairs which started on November 5, this year and we hope it will be fully operational next week, “ said Chacha.

Elaborating, he said the generator had to be switched off while being repaired, plunging the township into darkness. “I urge the residents to be patient while our technicians work round the clock to repair the generator.

I hope next week it will be fully operational,” he said. Statistics show that the demand for power in Katavi region is one megawatt and all the four generators have an installed capacity of 3 MW.
