The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) Managing Director, Ms Mizinga Melu, has been named Business Woman of the Year 2013 at the All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA) which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
A statement issued by the bank said that the All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA) aims to identify and honour those leaders who are making a difference through innovation and inspiration in their industry sectors. It is organized and overseen by ABN Productions.
AABLA was launched in South Africa in 2011 with the first awards ceremony which took place in October the same year. As one of the most prominent award ceremonies in Africa, the AABLA ceremony is televised across the African continent annually.
The Business Leaders Awards was originally conceived by CNBC Worldwide. According to the statement, there are four categories through which participants can be nominated namely Business Leader of the year 2013, Business Woman of the year 2013, Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 and Young Business Leader of the year 2013.
The winner of the Southern Africa Business Woman of the Year category exemplifies outstanding leadership in business.
She showcases positive financial results, increased shareholder value and provided sound management, proven corporate governance and demonstrated innovation, best business practices and accountability, together with intangible qualities such as integrity and vision. Ms Melu was appointed to the role of Managing Director at NBC with effect from 20th May 2013.
She is an exceptional banker having worked in six African countries and equipped with more than 20 years of experience in the Banking Industry.
Ms Melu is an expert in formulating, implementing and developing Business Strategies; one such example is the award winning 500m US dollars Microfinance Bill Clinton pledge of banking the unbanked.
