The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has appealed to district councils to avail land for the construction of affordable houses for the people.
The corporation’s Manager for Public Affairs, Muungano Seguya, made the remarks in Mpwapwa, Dodoma over the weekend during a graduation ceremony for Standard Seven pupils at Mtejeta Exercise School.
Mr Seguya said his corporation had entered into an agreement with the Vocational Education Training Authority (VETA) to train youth on brick making technology to be used in construction of affordable houses countrywide. “It is now upon the district councils to provide us with land to put up the houses.
In the near future, we will offer the brick making machines to the 160 town and district councils countrywide,” the NHC official said. He added that the machines will be made available to youths groups to be formed by respective district councils in collaboration with NHC regional managers.
“Each town and district council will be given four machines which can then be used by 10 people. Through the arrangement, we are optimistic of creating over 7,000 jobs for the youths,” he explained.
The arrangement is part of the corporation’s social corporate responsibility, according to Seguya. The NHC executive was also hopeful that the groups could in future form savings and credits co-operative societies to improve their incomes. During the graduation ceremony, NHC also handed 70 desks worth 5.2m/- to help solve shortage of desks at the school.
