The management of the National Housing Corporation (NHC) has reviewed a total of 98 partnership deals in a move that leads to cancellation of 55 flawed contracts, the Deputy Minister for Land, Housing and Human Settlement Development, Mr Goodluck ole Medeye has said.

According to the deputy minister, the new management had decided to soul search and re-examine the scores of deals that had been in place before.
Responding to a question from Rombo Legislator Joseph Selasini (Rombo – Chadema), the deputy minister said that the other 43 contracts were found without faults and allowed to continue.
He said that no-one had gone to court to contest the NHC’s decision because termination of the contracts fully involved them. The Rombo MP, Mr Selasini wanted to know whether the review of the contracts could not give a bad signal to prospective investors in the housing sector.
But the deputy minister allayed the fears saying it would not as the NHC and government policy on partnerships with private sector was transparent and attractive to prospective investors.
The deputy minister said the review was necessary so that NHC could find it satisfactory to continue with the contracts and other projects.
He said the review helped the corporation to note the defective contracts and made improvements which helped some of the contracts to continue.
He said that the review helped to restore public and investor trust. He also said that it was important to do such an audit because it was more prudent for NHC to run legitimate deals.
