A Nigerian national, Okwudilu Agu (40), appeared before the Kisutu Resident Magistrates’ Court in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday charged with illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs valued at 57m/-.
Before Principal Resident Magistrate Gabriel Mirumbe, the accused person denied the charge. He was remanded in custody until January 20, this year, when the case will come up for another mention.
Investigations into the matter, according to the prosecution, have not been completed. State Attorney Aida Kisumo told the court that the Nigerian national committed the offence on December 29, last year, at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Ilala District in the city.
The prosecutor further alleged that the accused was unlawfully found with 1273.69 grammes of heroin estimated to be valued at 57,316,000/-.
Meanwhile, the prosecution has completed investigation into a case in which a couple, Omary Abdallah Maneno (36) and Judith Mushi, alias Lea (28), are charged with canning their two daughters and causing them serious injuries.
Prosecutor Kenneth Sekwao yesterday read over a memorandum of facts detailing how the two committed the offence.
Resident Magistrate Augustina Mbando, who is hearing the matter, set February 5 as the date for commencement of hearing the case.
The prosecution alleges that the accused committed the offence of cruelty to children in February 2013 in Kigamboni area, Temeke district, in the city.
It is further claimed that being parents of the two children, one aged seven and the other five years, both attending studies at Bunge Primary School, the accused caused them to suffer injuries by using sticks and pipes to hit them.
