Obafemi Awolowo University management has discarded all the media news and rumors that alleges tuition fees will be hiked.
Founded in 1961, the Nigerian university is owned and operated by federal government. It is an institution of higher learning.
Public Relations Officer Abiodun Olarewaju released a statement Tuesday saying even though there is shortage of fund to run the university, but the management of OAU has not increased the tuition fees and has not urged the parents and students to pay more.
He added that some other universities have reviewed their fees in the wake of paucity of funds from the Federal Government.
The PRO further said the management have taken the note from one of the daily newspapers which reports OAU too has been among the universities reviewing their tuition fees.
Olarenwaju continued that to avoid any such doubt among the parents and students it is being stated that no such meeting has been held either of the University management or Senate for hiking of the tuition fees in their institution.
Meanwhile, the statement also writes the Vice Chancellor of the University has not guided for any increase of fees in OAU.
The officer mentioned academic affairs and administrative of the university will not run in secret and OAU will not turn away from pledge of running an open and transparent administration.
It is learned from the statement the present administration is committed to the welfare of students and staff.
The current Vice Chancellor of OAU is Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede.
