Kenya Hockey Union men’s national league reigning champions Parklands Sports Club are all smiles as they are major beneficiaries of Coast based Mombasa Institute’s failure to honour weekend fixtures.
As a result, they gained five goals and three easy points that moved them to second place with 13 points two points behind league leaders Nakuru Sikh who have 15 points.
Multimedia University (MMU) moved to third place with 13 points behind Parklands on goal difference.
Women’s national league’s defending championsOrange had a good run and are at the summit with 18 points nine points clear of their closest rivals following their 21-0 victory against struggling MMU.
Strathmore’s Scorpions and Sliders are in second and third places respectively with nine points and goal difference putting the Scorpions ahead of Sliders.
Sliders are currently in good form and seem to be determined to win all their remaining matches. Dorsillah Agunda was at it again this weekend scoring the winning goal against Vikings to secure a narrow 1-0 win. She scored the lone goal in the 24th minute from a penalty corner nicely taken by former Kenyatta University’s Sikwatta Ndombellah.
Vikings are currently struggling and this was their second loss in a row having suffered a 3-0 defeat against champs Orange in a previous match.
Rained off
A national league match pitting University ( UoN) of Nairobi and Thika Rovers ended prematurely in the 45th minute following a down pour.
UoN were leading 3-1 Francis Wambua, Andrew Muvila and Derrick Ouma scored for UoN while Roman Githinji scored the solitary goal for the Rovers.
The remaining twenty five minutes will be played on a later date. It took workers about three hours to clear water off the pitch in an effort to see the premier league matches.
Current league leaders Kenya Police and Parkroad as well as defending champions Nairobi Simba and Strathmore matches never took place due to the poor condition of the pitch.
KHU Chairman Nashon Randiek said: This is nothing to worry about. I have been in international events and seen worse stadia than this.” he said. “Something will be done but matches can be called off and re-scheduled.”
