The Deputy Minister for Transport, Dr Charles Tizeba, told the Parliament here yesterday that the move comes following technical advice from the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) consultant, who proposed for some of the offices and containers to be moved ready for the exercise.

He said that it has been noticed that enough space need to be created due to increasing cargo and already stakeholders have been notified and are cooperating with TPA to move their offices outside the harbour area.

Dr Tizeba was answering a question from Mr Jaku Hashim Ayubu (House of Representatives), who said there were a number of investors who are denied office space at the Port while there were petty traders who are occupying spaces conducting small businesses.

Dr Tizeba said TPA will provide office space to investors whose investment and activities were important to the Port operations and that the ongoing construction work that aims to make the Dar es Salaam Port a modern business hub is progressing well.

“We urge all our customers to understand that we are targeting to improve the service of the Port and not otherwise and we call for patience as we continue with the construction process,” he said.

However, the Deputy Minister said all investors currently looking for office space to be on the lookout as the Authority’s modern and specious One Stop Centre is set for completion by 2015.
