Pirates struggling in early season


G4S Pirates are still struggling and are yet to test a win this season as they again suffered a 29-9 defeat against DMark Kobs in the Nile Special Premier Rugby League on Saturday at Legends Kampala Rugby Club.

G4S Pirates struggled against DMark Kobs on Saturday.

Fullback James Ijongat gave Kobs a 10-0 courtesy of a try, conversion and penalty before Pirates replied with a penalty through their new signing Kevin Makmot to reduce the margin to 10-3 but Kobs added a try by Ramathan Govule to stay 15-3.

Pirates fought back managing a penalty  by  Makmot  but  Kobs quickly added a try courtesy of Justin Kimono and a conversion by Ijongat to hand Kobs a 22-6. Half time lead.

In the second half Pirates regrouped and fought back but only managed a penalty by Makmot while Kobs added a try and conversion by Cyrus Wathum and Ijongat to hand Kobs a 29-9 win.

In Lira it was a walk in the park as MTN Heathens whipped Lira Bulls 70-12 to reclaim the top spot on the table standing from Kobs that had taken an early table lead after a 46-6 win against Mutoni Warriors in their first league game.

In Entebbe hosts Sadolin Mongers lost 19-13 to visitors Toyota Buffaloes in a bruising fixture that at one time in the second half was 13-13 but Buffaloes secured two penalties to seal a 19-13 win.


On Friday opening the weekend a EzeeMoney Rhinos edged Mutoni warriors 22-20 in a bruising fixture that kept both clubs’ technical benches on tension.

A penalty by fly half Byron Atubikire while training 20-19 salvaged Rhinos from the jaws of defeat and earned 22-20 victory.

Abel Ssozi was later awarded the man of the Match medal for his contributions in the win.
