The Police Force will deploy over 800 officers in 528 divisions to increase the country’s capacity in fighting crime at all levels.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Said Mwema, said this in Dar es Salaam at a meeting with senior officers at the Police Headquarters.
The meeting centred on issues related to improving police operations in divisions, wards, villages and households targeting at extension of public security services.
The IGP said every division would be served with at least 15 police officers responsible to ensure security and safety as well as finding solutions to public complaints on crime and security issues.
“The major task in the police force at the moment is implementation of a programme aimed at improving policing to the modern standards with efficiency and collaboration with community in reducing crime rate, as well as achieving the 2025 vision which emphasises on good governance,” he said.
IGP Mwema also noted that police officers at the division level would coordinate efforts by members of the community in tracing criminals.
He added that such officers would work closely with security and safety committees in houses of worship to analyse various security challenges and lay down strategies to deal with them.
Meanwhile, FATMA ABDU adds that three people died in separate incidents which occurred in Dar es Salaam on Monday.
In the first incident, a Toyota Land Cruser with registration number SU 36402, property of Dawasco knocked a pedestrian (male) whose name was not established immediately.
Kinondoni Regional Police Commander (RPC) Camilius Wambura said in the city yesterday that the accident occurred on Monday morning along Morogoro Road at Mbezi Kanisani area.
Ilala RPC, Ms Marietha Minangi, said a child identified as Himan Hossein (2) died after he was knocked by a Toyota Hiace with registration number T 499 AQE.
RPC Minangi said that the accident occurred when the driver failed to control his car and hit a child who had sat near their family house along Newala Street in Ilala Municipality.
