About twenty official websites of Angolan government has been hacked by a Portuguese branch of the Anonymous hacking in retaliation to the sentencing of young activists for plotting a rebellion.
Luaty Beirao, a well-known rapper, is also among the seventeen youths sentenced on Monday between two and eight-and-a-half years.
Beirao has dual nationality of Angola as well as Portugal, colonial ruler of Angola until winning independence in 1974. He has a good number of fan base in both the countries.
The Anonymous Portugal group disclosed on its Facebook page along with the list of websites of Angolan government they have attacked.
The group said, “The real criminals are outside, defended by the capitalist system that increasingly spreads in the minds of the weak.”
Angolan government has not yet commented on the attack of websites which were not accessible on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International has called for the release of all the activists.
Amnesty director Deprose Muchena said, “Angolan authorities use the criminal justice system to silence dissenting views.”
The trial is deeply politicised and the youths have been wrongly convicted. The activists are victims of the determination of Angolan government who intimidates those who dares to questions the policies.
More than two dozens of protesters shouted outside the court at the sentencing. They yelled free the youths and arrest dictator Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
Santos, 73, is the president of Angola since 1979.
The jailed youths said they were campaigning peacefully for stepping down of Santos.
