Emmanuel Enabu arrived safely in Canada on Thursday. D’Mark Power will be hoping for a safe landing when they face the Falcons at YMCA in their first game without the talented point guard, who has relocated to North America to further his studies.
Enabu’s departure is a huge loss to Power, who have played without injured starting point guard Ben Komakech in their last two games.
Power captain Joseph Ikong told New Vision Sport that, “Power has other players who can handle the ball” but team-mate Isaac Afidra conceded that “Power will definitely miss Enabu”.
Ultimately, this is a loss for Ugandan basketball at large as Emmanuel, the youngest of the three Enabu brothers in Airtel National Basketball League, was one of the most gifted players in the country and a likely future national team star.
There is hope that Enabu will not only keep playing in Canada but that he will actually improve and return to Uganda a better player.
For now, Power have to find a solution to Enabu’s exit, which happened “a bit suddenly”, as the player told New Vision Sport before his trip.
Of course, it is not only Power missing talent.
In fact, the Falcons will be without more players, who have indefinitely left the club as the season-long financial crisis continues to bite.
Phillip Ameny, Serge Kabangu and Geoff Omondi all will not feature for a team that has been bedevilled by internal divisions this season.
Meanwhile, Goeffrey Soro put in a performance worthy of his status as reigning ANBL MVP, scoring a season-high 34 points as the Ndejje University beat champions Riham Warriors 84-69.
