A Seven-year-old girl died while receiving medical treatment at Chimala Mission Hospital after she was hit by a power tiller while crossing the road in Mbarali district, Mbeya region, over the weekend.
Mbeya Regional Police Commander (RPC), Diwani Athumani, said on Monday that the pedestrian, who was identified as Nusura Evenary, sustained multiple wounds, adding that she was believed to have died from excessive bleeding.
“We have embarked on a manhunt for the power tiller operator whose identity is yet to be established,” he said.
He said the police were investigating the matter while looking for the operator, who ran away after the incident. The body of the deceased was preserved at Mission Chimala hospital pending burial arrangements.
In another incident, RPC Athumani said, a man identified by one name as Yusuph, a resident of Kyela, died in a road accident at around 11am in Igawilo area.
He said the driver of a speeding vehicle, a FAW lorry with registration number T 993 CWS/T 352 ASF, lost control of the vehicle, leading to its overturning.
The RPC said the driver of the vehicle, whom he identified as Hussein Mussa (33), sustained injuries, adding that police were still investigating the matter to establish the cause of the accident. The body of the deceased was preserved at Mbeya Referral Hospital.
