Preps for Isles Revolution take off

Preparations for the 50th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution have started. Ministers responsible for various preparatory activities have called for concerted effort to make it a success.

Second Vice-President, Ambassador Seif Ali oversees the preparatory arrangements for the anticipated grand celebrations on January 12, next year. He said that the celebrations must be held befittingly enabling all Zanzibaris to rejoice.

The celebrations will be held at the usual Amani Stadium. The Deputy Minister responsible for Culture and Sports, Ms Bihindi Hamad, told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the stadium will be improved to a respectabe standard.

“If our budget is approved, the work of rehabilitating the stadium will start as soon as August, this year. We need enough time to prepare for the celebrations,” said Bihindi when responding to a question asked by Mr Nassor Salim Ali (CCM – Rahaleo).

The legislator wanted to know when the work of giving Amani Stadium a facelift would start before it is too late for the revolutionary anniversary. Zanzibaris toppled the Sultanate’s last regime on January 12, 1964 before merging with Tanzania Mainland to form the United Republic of Tanzania
