Presentation of the final submission in the trial of the former Simba SC Secretary General, Hassan Othman ‘Hassanol’ and two other accused persons charged with stealing tonnes of copper worth over 397m/- will be held on November 1, this year at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court in Dar es Salaam.
Hassan Othman ‘Hassanol’
Resident Magistrate, Devotha Kisoka said on Friday that the presentation of the final submission of the case from the two sides will be followed by the judgment on November 6th this year.
The changes have been made following the absence of the State Attorney, Theophil Mutakyao, who has travelled to Mtwara. Hassanol, who is also the incumbent Coast Region Football Association (COREFA) Chairman and his co-accused persons, the two businessmen– Najim Msenga and Wambura Mahega are charged with stealing several tonnes of copper worth over 397m/-.
The prosecution alleged that on August 26, 2011, the three accused persons, conspired to steal the consignment. In the last court session, all the three accused persons gave their respective defence evidence against the charges and vehemently denied involvement in the theft transaction.
The prosecution’s evidence suggests that the stolen cargo was found hidden at a certain yard at Bahari Beach areas in Kinondoni District on August 27, 2011.
It is alleged that the stolen consignment was transported from Zambia to Dar es Salaam where it was to be kept at the yard of Tanzania Road Haulage (TRH) before being exported to its owner.
A local company known as Liberty Express Tanzania Limited had been sub-contracted to transport the cargo to the yard using a Scania lorry number T 821 DCL.
