The Religious Leaders’ Council for Combating Drug Abuse in Tanzania has congratulated the Minister for Transport, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, for his patriotism, courage and compassion for this nation through intensifying fight against drugs trafficking and use.
According to the council, Dr Mwakyembe is a role model of all the leaders in the country and they asked religious leaders of all faiths to pray for him and police should intensify protection for him.
Other stakeholders and organizations should join hands in eradicating drug trafficking because Dr Mwakyembe cannot succeed without being complemented.
The chairperson of the council who is also the Chief Sheikh of Dar es Salaam Region, Sheikh Alhad Mussa, said that the step taken to restore the dignity of Mwalimu J.K Nyerere International Airport is important and will help return respect to the country.
“We don’t agree with the use of the Mwalimu Nyerere International Airport as a gateway for drugs,” he said. He added that the council also congratulates the Drug Control Commission and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for various strategies that saw the capture and curbing of use and inflow of drugs into the country.
