Youths at an agricultural camp at Mkongo in Rufiji District, Coast Region have been urged to work hard and diligently to become good ambassadors in their respective home villages after completion of training.

The Director General of Rufiji Basin Development Authority (RUBADA), Mr Aloyce Masanja, said that youths at the camp should work hard and use skills acquired to generate wealth.
Mr Masanja made the remarks during the visit he made recently at the camp to assess progress made so far after President Jakaya Kikwete officially opened it last month. “We want to equip you with skills and knowledge and be able to work on your own after leaving here,” he told the youths.
He cautioned the youths to think of self employment, something he said would help in encouraging others to cultivate interest in the agricultural sector which his authority has pledged to develop.
“Do not think of seeking employment after hereÉ we want to equip you with skills that will make you exemplary, you only need to work hard and adhere to what you are taught here,” Mr Masanja told the youths.
Explaining further, he said 50 youths would be grouped into eight different sections according to projects available at the camp. For example, there will be those who will deal with food crops, livestock, horticulture and food processing. Mr Masanja said today various tools such as tractors will be readily available at the camp for use.
The head of the camp, Mr Itunda Mbwambo, assured RUBADA boss that youths at the camp were ready mentally and physically to do what they are supposed to do. Mkongo camp offers training on modern farming, environmental protection, food processing, project write ups and formation of community and saving groups.
The training are grouped in three major areas of producing high valued crops, especially horticulture produce and fruits, modern livestock keeping and fishing. Mkongo camp which began with 50 youths has the capacity of taking 300 youths annually. RUBADA expects to train over 600 youths at Mkongo camp by 2015.
