Meru, Kenya: Deputy President William Ruto has said the Jubilee Government will not break the law in the implementation of its programmes.
Mr Ruto said the Government would adhere to the Constitution in the management of the country. He said those criticising the style of Jubilee Government have either not read the Constitution or the Bible on matters of leadership.
The Deputy President assured Kenyans that the Government will respect the institutions created by the Constitution as far as management of the country is concerned. Speaking at the Jesus House of Praise in Meru town, the Deputy President said the Constitution regards all Kenyans and institutions equally.
‘The President will be careful to make sure we implement our programmes in line with the Constitution to ensure accountability of what we are doing,’ added the Deputy President. Service delivery He said the National Government will work closely with the county governments in ensuring service delivery to the people.
Ruto said the Jubilee Government has rolled out comprehensive plans to take the country forward. “I want to assure you of our commitment to transforming the lives of Kenyans. I am sure with God’s help, we are confident our plans will lead to the growth of our economy by double digits,’ said Ruto who was accompanied by his wife Rachel.
Others present were Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki, Governor Peter Munya, Women Representative Florence Kajuju, Elgeyo/Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, MPs Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), Muthoni Njuki (Igambang’ombe) and Dawood Rahim (Imenti North).
Murkomen accused ODM leadership of doublespeak and insincerity on issue pertaining to the Media Bill and Judicial Service Commission.
He wondered why ODM legislators have retracted and yet they had supported the passage of the Media Bill before it was presented to the President.
Murkomen defended the President against accusations that he went against the Constitution by suspending the six members of JSC.
“President has not made any mistake by suspending the JSC members. In fact he would have failed in his constitutional duties had he not done has recommended by Parliament,” he said.
Prof Kindiki said they fully support a tribunal to investigate the activities of the six JSC members who have been suspended by the President, saying the Head of State was constitutionally right to do so. “Even others are opposing the Nyumba Kumi initiative where neighbours are encouraged to know each other.
“But surely what is wrong with people knowing each other?” asked Prof Kindiki. The Senator told leaders in Meru to stop their supremacy wars and work as a team in solving the challenges facing the area residents.
“We want to remind our colleagues in Meru that humility is not cowardice. Let us support activities aimed at improving their living standards instead of fighting over who is who in the county,” he added.
Governor Peter Munya praised the new railway project that was launched by the President in Mombasa saying such initiatives are aimed at improving the economic situation of the country.
