Rwanda: Accountants move to enhance corporate governance

Over 30 accountants and auditors from small-and-medium enterprises (SME’s) have been trained on how to improve business processes and ensure corporate governance.

The training is part of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) efforts to strengthen professionalism among its members.

“We need to improve the capacity of members to avoid errors that may lead to fraud or mislead investors, regulators and management,” said John Munga, the ICPAR deputy chief executive officer.

He said the profession was plagued by problems in which accounting firms have lost money through penalties.

The training will support SMEs improve business standards and ensure proper financial management, record keeping and business planning.

Munga said training in-service staff was vital, arguing that it builds their capacity to perform effectively.
